Chapter Five

Grace had made plans to see Katie the next day. She was putting the finishing touches on the lasagna when her friend walked in the door, holding a silver wrapped package.

“The doorman said this was dropped off for you. I hope it’s okay to bring it up. Looks expensive.”

Grace took the package as she handed Katie a glass of Chardonnay, as they sat on the lounge to open it. Nested inside ruby red paper was two pairs of delicate pale pink underwear, the material so sheer it was like holding tissue paper.

“There’s a note,” Katie said handing it to Grace, who blushed as Katie grinned at her. Grace opened and read the note, blushing even more deeply at the contents.

“I’m assuming it’s from Jack?” Katie said as she sat back and took a sip. “He called Lee earlier this morning.”

“What did he say?”

“Just that he saw you last night and he wanted to apologize for being a shit the other night, for assuming the worse of Lee and me. He said he understood now.” Katie hesitated. “Must have been some date.”

Grace placed the lid back on the box, murmuring. “It was.”

“So, when are you seeing him again?”

Grace held the note up. “Tonight. He’s picking me up at eight. He wants to cook me dinner.”

Katie held back a smirk. “It must have been a really good date last night then.”

Grace grinned. “Actually, I think I might have met my match with Jack,” Grace said shyly, not one to admit to liking someone easily.

“Funny, he said the same thing to Lee about you.”

“Did he?”

“Just don’t overthink it. He’s a good guy and not one to play with a woman’s feelings. I have never known him to be this captivated by someone before. Definitely never admitting to it!” Katie laughed. “Right then,” she said, “we better get lunch done so you can start obsessing over what you’re going to wear tonight.”

Something to take off easily, Grace thought, mentally going through her closet.
